CfP: Oxford International History of East Asia seminars Winter 2023

 The Oxford International History of East Asia Seminar invites fellow PhD students and early career researchers to submit proposals for seminar presentations on any aspect of the international and transnational history of East and Southeast Asia, particularly papers on the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. We are interested both in proposals exploring international and transnational connections within and between East and Southeast Asia as well as proposals considering the interaction of East/Southeast Asia and the wider world, including Africa, Latin America, Central Asia, and elsewhere. Those interested in speaking are invited to send a provisional title, an abstract no longer than 300 words, and a short biographical note to  IHEAOxSeminar@gmail.com  by 8th January, 2023. Job Opportunities: NSLI-Y and CLS Program Summer Resident Directors for Korean

American Councils for International Education is currently hiring  2023 Korean Resident Directors for  language immersion programs of the  Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program  and the  National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) Program .  Resident Directors are the  first-level  of support for CLS students for the duration of the program. The Resident Director supports student success by ensuring the health and safety of the participants, helping them to maintain a language policy, and helping to acclimate them to life abroad.   The Resident Director position is a non-teaching position but requires a high level of proficiency in the target language. The approximate dates of the program are June to August; Resident Directors also attend a three-day training in May.   We seek individuals who have demonstrated student support experience for undergraduate and/or graduate students, or experience leading or supporting a study abroad or language immersion program.  Appli

Since the mid-twentieth century, both North and South Korea have famously wielded state power to secure the boundaries of their territories and to pursue competing paths to development. Yet Korean territory has also long been shaped by imperial entanglements—through relations with China, through colonization by Japan, and through the division system itself. It has also been shaped by non-state actors, from anti-colonial activists and peace activists to real estate speculators.  Scholars from social science, humanities, and policy-oriented disciplines are invited to reflect on the theme of Territory and Sovereignty on the Korean Peninsula. Accepting Applications for Postdoctoral Fellowship in Korean Studies

  Applications for the 2023-2024 Academic Year are now OPEN!  The George Washington University Institute for Korean Studies (GWIKS) is now accepting applications for a  Postdoctoral Fellow  in the 2023-24 academic year. This fellowship is open to scholars in the social sciences focusing on a Korea-related research topic. The Fellowship: The postdoctoral fellowship will cover up to a 12-month period between August 1, 2023, and July 31, 2024 and provide a stipend of $55,000-60,000, as well as conference travel funds up to $2,000. The postdoctoral fellow will also receive office space, a personal computer, access to libraries, and other resources at the George Washington University. The post-doctoral fellow will also be eligible to enroll in health benefits through George Washington University.
