Symposium: Territory and Sovereignty on the Korean Peninsula

  Korea Institute, Harvard University CALL FOR PAPERS TERRITORY AND SOVEREIGNTY ON THE KOREAN PENINSULA an online symposium MARCH 9, 2023 Abstract Deadline: January 5, 2023 The term “territory” is conventionally used as a synonym for the space over which a state exercises sovereign power. Since the mid-twentieth century, both North and South Korea have famously wielded state power to secure the boundaries of their territories and to pursue competing paths to development. Yet Korean territory has also long been shaped by imperial entanglements—through relations with China, through colonization by Japan, and through the division system itself. It has also been shaped by non-state actors, from anti-colonial activists and peace activists to real estate speculators.  Scholars from social science, humanities, and policy-oriented disciplines are invited to reflect on the theme of Territory and Sovereignty on the Korean Peninsula. Accepting Applications for Postdoctoral Fellowship in Korean Studies

  Applications for the 2023-2024 Academic Year are now OPEN!  The George Washington University Institute for Korean Studies (GWIKS) is now accepting applications for a  Postdoctoral Fellow  in the 2023-24 academic year. This fellowship is open to scholars in the social sciences focusing on a Korea-related research topic. The Fellowship: The postdoctoral fellowship will cover up to a 12-month period between August 1, 2023, and July 31, 2024 and provide a stipend of $55,000-60,000, as well as conference travel funds up to $2,000. The postdoctoral fellow will also receive office space, a personal computer, access to libraries, and other resources at the George Washington University. The post-doctoral fellow will also be eligible to enroll in health benefits through George Washington University.
